The 40-year-old mother, identified as Jjumba, had been discharged from hospital with no financial means to transport her baby’s body back to her village with dignity.
Faced with harsh reality, she made a heartbreaking decision—placing her child’s remains in a newly purchased suitcase, hoping to make the journey manageable and affordable.
She boarded a commuter taxi, holding onto the suitcase tightly, focused only on reaching home to give her daughter a proper send-off.
However, during a brief stop, Jjumba stepped out of the vehicle to load airtime onto her phone, unaware that this routine action would cost her dearly.
By the time she returned, the taxi had already driven off, with the suitcase still inside, triggering panic and a desperate but unsuccessful attempt to trace the vehicle.
The vehicle, identified as a Toyota Hiace registration number UBL 104 Z, is now central to the search, as the grieving mother clings to hope.
Jjumba suspects that a passenger may have taken the suitcase, possibly believing it contained valuables, not knowing the devastating truth hidden inside.
