Tight security was witnessed across Kisumu City on Sunday as the Linda Mwananchi brigade made its way to KaOwuor Grounds for a highly anticipated political rally.
The deployment of security officers was visible at key entry and exit points, with traffic movement controlled as supporters streamed into the city ahead of the event.
The convoy carrying the Linda Mwananchi leadership arrived under heavy police escort, moving slowly through major roads amid cheering supporters lining the streets.
Before heading to KaOwuor Grounds, the team attended a church service within Kisumu, a move organizers said was meant to set a peaceful tone for the day’s political engagements.
The delegation was led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who were joined by other allied leaders and grassroots mobilizers.
Large crowds accompanied the leaders, with supporters chanting slogans, singing, and waving placards as they expressed support for what they described as a push for people-centred leadership.
The rally agenda centered on calls for accountability, improved governance, and stronger public participation in decision-making, according to statements made by organizers earlier in the day.
Siaya Governor James Orengo, speaking earlier, warned against attempts to frustrate political gatherings in the region, saying such actions risk deepening tensions and undermining democratic space.
The event comes at a time of rising political friction in Nyanza, where rival factions have been accusing each other of intimidation and disruption of public meetings.
As the rally continues at KaOwuor Grounds, security remains tight, with authorities monitoring the situation closely to ensure order is maintained throughout the proceedings.
