Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello is mourning the death of his mother, Mama Doris Okello, following confirmation by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The party announced the news on Tuesday, May 5, through its official communication channels, expressing sympathy to the legislator and his family during the period of mourning.
“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon. Jared Okello, MP for Nyando, following the passing of the family matriarch Mama Doris Okello,” ODM stated.
The party also extended prayers and support to the family, wishing them strength and comfort as they come to terms with the loss.
“We pray to God to guide the family and give them strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time of grief,” the statement added.
According to ODM, Mama Doris Okello passed away on the night of May 5. The cause of her death has not been made public.
Messages of condolence have also been shared by constituents and supporters, many of whom expressed sympathy and solidarity with the MP during the difficult moment.
Some supporters described the late Mama Doris as a respected family figure, while others encouraged the legislator to remain strong as he continues serving the people of Nyando.
Jared Okello is currently serving his second term as Nyando MP, having first been elected in 2017. He also serves as a member of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), which plays a key role in ODM’s administrative and policy decisions.
Leaders and members of the public continue to send messages of support as the family prepares for burial arrangements.
