A senior chief has been shot dead in a shocking attack in Nakuru County, leaving residents in fear and raising fresh concerns about security in the area.
The incident happened late in the evening when the administrator was reportedly heading home after a day’s work. According to witnesses, unknown gunmen ambushed him and opened fire, killing him on the spot.
A security guard who was nearby during the attack was also shot and seriously injured.
Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the death of the chief and said the injured guard was rushed to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Medical staff described his condition as serious but stable.
Residents said they heard several gunshots before the attackers fled. Some rushed to the scene, only to find the chief lying motionless.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with many describing the late administrator as dedicated and approachable.
“He was always ready to help people and solve disputes. This is a big loss to us,” said one resident.
Security agencies have launched investigations into the killing. Police say they are pursuing leads to identify and arrest those responsible. They have also increased patrols in the area to restore calm and reassure residents.
Authorities have not yet established the motive behind the attack, but early reports suggest it could be linked to disputes the chief was handling or broader criminal activities in the region.
However, police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue.
Local leaders have condemned the killing, calling for swift action to bring the attackers to justice. They have also urged the government to strengthen security, especially for administrators working in high-risk areas.
