Kenyans living in South Africa have been advised to remain vigilant following renewed safety concerns linked to isolated incidents affecting foreign nationals in parts of the country.
The advisory was issued by the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria on May 4, targeting Kenyan citizens working, studying, and doing business across South Africa. Authorities noted rising tensions in certain areas, accompanied by sporadic demonstrations.
In its statement, the High Commission urged Kenyans to take precautionary measures and stay informed about developments in their localities.
“The Kenya High Commission in Pretoria wishes to advise all Kenyan nationals residing in the Republic of South Africa to exercise caution and remain vigilant in light of recent demonstrations and isolated incidents reported in some parts of the Republic of South Africa affecting foreign nationals,” the statement read.
Kenyans were specifically advised to avoid areas where protests or demonstrations are taking place and to follow instructions issued by local authorities. The mission also emphasised the importance of carrying valid identification and relevant documents at all times.
Additionally, citizens were encouraged to maintain contact with local security agencies and promptly report any incidents that may pose a risk to their safety.
The advisory comes amid periodic tensions in parts of South Africa that have, in the past, affected foreign nationals, raising concerns among expatriate communities.
Kenyan authorities say they will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates where necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens abroad.
